Empowering Through Resourcefulness

Domynique Jazmen Smith is the visionary founder and Executive Director of EmPower Urban Communities (EmPower UC), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing free social services, promoting social justice, and fostering community unity. Through educational programs, economic development initiatives, advocacy, mentoring, and health and wellness programs, EmPower UC works to create lasting change by making critical resources more accessible.

Domynique develops and facilitates long-term programs that serve elders, middle-aged adults, young adults, and youth.

Her commitment to dismantling systemic barriers is evident through her success in securing over $1 million in grant funding for individuals and families, her advocacy for Senate Bill 1632, and her policy change efforts as a Maternal Health & Doula Advocacy member.

Domynique also serves as the Director of The House of James, where she specializes in reintegration, mental health services, and violence prevention. In addition, she provides uncompensated mental health and transitional services to incarcerated individuals inside Cook County Department of Corrections.

For 11 years, Domynique worked as an educator for Thornton Township High Schools District 205, where she was a dedicated mentor, tutor, and Special Olympics coach.

In 2019, she earned a Master’s degree in Social Work from Governors State University, maintaining a 4.0 GPA throughout the three-year program. She also served as Class President of the Phi Alpha Honor Society and was honored with the Outstanding Leadership Award by the university’s social work department.

Domynique is a Licensed Professional Educator, Licensed Social Worker, and Licensed School Social Worker. She is currently pursuing her Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) certification, which she is expected to complete by May 2025. Her passion for education and service led her to obtaining a Ph.D. in Theology at Hope Bible Institute & Seminary.

Her contributions have been widely recognized. Domynique has received numerous accolades, including an Honorary Doctorate in Humanitarianism from the Global Alliance, an Honorary Doctorate from World Wide Grace and Mercy, the President’s Volunteer Service Award, the Community Impact Award from Reverend Jesse Jackson on behalf of Rainbow PUSH, and various other honors celebrating her commitment to community service.

Domynique is a devoted wife and proud mom of 14 year old twins (JaNyla and Josiah) and

1 year old King Smith II.
